Analysis of Some Fault Code Cases of Hitachi Excavator

Fault code 0164-04

Injection drive pressure sensor and short to ground.

① Main fault phenomenon

a. A diesel engine operates at low power;

b. The diesel engine is running poorly at idle speed.

② Cause of failure: ECM detects all of the following conditions:

a. The signal voltage of the injection drive pressure sensor is lower than 0.1V for at least 0.6s;

b. 5V sensor power supply line and battery positive short circuit fault code 0262-03 currently do not exist;

c. 5V sensor power supply line and ground short circuit fault code 0262-04 currently does not exist;

d. The power supply to the ECM has been provided for at least 2 seconds;

e. Cold mode does not currently exist.

③ The system responds that the ECM will record a fault code, which can be viewed on the display module or ET. The ECM marks the injection drive pressure as invalid data and uses the pressure of 17.5MPa as the default value. The ECM sets the current to the injection drive pressure control valve to a fixed value.

Fault code 0164-11

Mechanical failure of the injection drive pressure sensor.

① Main fault phenomenon

a. A diesel engine operates at low power;

b. The diesel engine is running poorly at idle speed;

c. It is difficult to start the diesel engine under normal operating temperature;

d. The diesel engine is easy to start when the temperature is lower than the normal operating temperature.

② The cause of the fault is that the ECM detects one of the following conditions:

a. The difference between the actual injection driving pressure and the required injection driving pressure exceeds 3MPa;

b. The maximum or minimum current output time to the injection drive pressure control valve is longer than required. This fault code indicates that there is a mechanical failure and that the ECM and electronic control system are operating normally.

③ The system responds that the ECM will record a fault code, which can be viewed on the display module or ET.

④ Fault Diagnosis and Troubleshooting There may be a fault only at operating temperature. If the system has been serviced recently, there may be air trapped in the injection drive system. Start the diesel engine at 1500r/min for several minutes to remove the remaining air.

Fault code 0168-02 system voltage pulsation.

① Main fault phenomenon

a. The diesel engine does not catch fire;

b. The diesel engine stops running.

② The cause of the fault is that the ECM detects one of the following conditions:

a. The diesel engine cannot be started, and the battery voltage drops below 9V, and then rises after 0.06s;

b. The diesel engine cannot start, and the battery voltage drops three times in the last 7 seconds, below 9V.

③ The system responds that the ECM will record a fault code, which can be viewed on the display module or ET. The ECM only records codes when the diesel engine is running.

Fault code 0172-03

Intake air temperature sensor and battery positive terminal open/short circuit.

① Main fault phenomenon

The diesel engine operates at low power.

② Cause of failure: ECM detects all of the following conditions:

a. ECM reads signal voltage above 4.92V for at least 8s;

b. 5V sensor power supply line and battery positive short circuit fault code 0262-03 currently does not exist;

c. 5V sensor power supply line and ground short circuit fault code 0262-04 currently does not exist;

d. The power supply to the ECM has been supplied for at least 2 seconds.

③ The system responds that the ECM will record a fault code, which can be viewed on the display module or ET. The ECM marks the intake air temperature as invalid data and uses a temperature of 85 degrees as the default value.
